Why be Efficient?
The Big picture
To achieve a healthier economy,
a cleaner environment and greater
energy security for our country
and oh yeah, save the planet!.
In Your Small World
To help you to continue to afford to live in your house by reducing the cost of your utility bills. So you can be healthier and more comfortable in your home. To add value to your home. So that you can be part of the solution for the big picture, (see above).
Be part of the Solution!
Not only does energy-efficiency save you money on your utility bills, it helps protect the environment by causing fewer harmful emissions from power plants.
Many appliances rely on electricity to run. Most electricity is produced from bio-masses like natural gas, coal and oil. But these sources in the U.S. are becoming scarce. When supplies are scarce, and demand for power remains high, prices of natural gas, electricity and oil prices will continue to hit record highs.
Depending on oil from other countries can reduce our homeland security status because 60 percent of the nation's oil is imported. Once a nation depends on another country for an essential import, it loses power while the supplying country gains power. So, as shortage grows in the U.S., its security weakens.
Other conventional sources of electricity include coal, nuclear, oil, natural gas, and large hydro power facilities. These sources supply about 99 percent of the electricity used in the U.S. today. Converting these sources into energy produces air pollution, emissions harmful to the environment and to human health.
Many believe that harmful emissions and pollution can lead to global warming, which can lead to death tolls from poor health, melting glaciers, rising sea levels, decreased crop production, drinking water shortages, endangered wildlife including your wild life.
So a push toward using environmentally-friendly sources of energy is taking center stage. Alternative sources of energy include the use of wind, sunlight, plant matter, or heat from the Earth's core. And further, environmentally friendly sources of energy are homegrown, and not a security issue!
Many states are moving forward with idea of using less conventional ways to produce energy. Vermont is helping to lead the way, But we can begin to take control of the situation right in our own homes by reducing the amount of electricity and fuel we use and changing some of our energy wasting bad habits.

It's not too Late.............You are Not Alone!
Gasoline and oil is our country's largest addiction. Doing gasoline is a filthy, dangerous and expensive habit and worse in some ways than drinking or smoking. In fact, you can transfer warning signs on cigarette packs almost verbatim to gas pumps, like so: "Using gasoline causes lung cancer and emphysema, and may complicate pregnancy."
Moreover, emissions from burning oil and gasoline are the leading cause of smog and global warming. And according to a recent study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, air pollution in cities puts city dwellers at a higher risk for lung cancer than people who live with smokers and breathe secondhand smoke.
Gasoline addiction
is a public health nightmare in other ways, too. Consider drunk driving, which is, in its distilled form, just the mixing of our culture's two most powerful liquids, gasoline and alcohol. One could also argue that gasoline usage leads to automotive dependency and a sedentary lifestyle, which is closely linked to heart disease, the number one cause of death in the United States. Through your homes chimney and your cars tailpipe emissions, oil and gasoline also plays a part in killer number two--cancer--and killer number four--emphysema. The fifth most common cause of death is accidents.
In drug terms, gasoline is to oil what heroin is to opium. And like opium, most oil comes from shady
overseas cartels located in non-democratic countries, including ones designated as "sponsors of terrorism." Billions are spent yearly by the Pentagon to maintain a huge military presence in the Persian Gulf to protect our "national interests."
